Description
A vintage studio pottery seated cat figurine, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so.
Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular vases. This cat would have been moulded, then a blue/green wash applied, which has been rubbed back to reveal highlights and lowlights. The subtle raised motifs include a flower to his chest and a large flower to his spine. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.
