Description

A small 1950s round vintage pin or coin or jewellery ornamental dish, by Rye Pottery, Sussex, England.

The stamp dates it from roughly 1947-1954.
This is by David Sharp at Rye Pottery before he left, as it is stamped ‘D’.

Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole. Walter (Wally) was responsible for creating the ceramics and running the pottery while John made the designs and created the patterns and decorations. As their work became increasingly popular, the Coles began to employ and train other staff – throwers David Sharp, Dennis Townsend, Raymond Everett, David Smeed and Jim Elliott who were later joined by Pam Goddard and June Woolley.

Wheel thrown dark reddy brown clay (locally dug clay).
Incised star patterns into the pale yellow glaze, and translucent layer of glaze.

A small dish, best for display and for a collector rather than use.
11.5cm x 1.8cm tall.

In very good condition.
It may have handmade glazing quirks – see photos.
No chips or crazing.

There’s lots to collect, all different!
